Licenses

Australia offers different types of electrical licenses. Each requires certain qualifications and experience. The main types of electrical licenses are:

• Electrical Worker License

Any electrician working in Adelaide must carry this license at least. It ensures they have undergone the required training to safely handle electrical work. With this license, your Adelaide electrician is allowed to work under the supervision of a fully licensed electrician. 

• Electrical Contractor License

This license is provided to businesses or individuals. It authorises them to run an electrical contracting business. Still, they must only hire licensed electricians to work under their supervision. 

• Electrician License (A Grade License)

This is the highest level of electrical licenses in Australia. It ensures the electrician is qualified to work on various projects in residential, commercial, and industrial properties. An A Grade Licensed electrician is authorised to sign off on completed electrical work.

Certifications

To apply for a full electrical license, individuals must first obtain a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician. Typically, it takes four years to complete this program and obtain certification from a registered Training Organisation (Trade school). During this time, electricians will learn everything about electrical systems and equipment. They will be qualified to work on a range of electrical projects, including domestic, commercial, and industrial projects.
